Happy new year! My first wedding of 2015 and it sits on the second day of the year. I have always wondered why people would want winter weddings but with the UK weather so unpredictable throughout the year, it makes very little difference whether you have blue skies and an absence of raindrops. I must admit it tends to be a bit colder and makes a photographers work a little more difficult with the daylight disappearing earlier, but as with all occasions there are pro’s and con’s and with light gone earlier, out come the sparklers which is a lot more difficult mid summer! Gemma and Jordan found me online as they live in Australia and were planning their wedding around Christmas which tied in perfectly with coming home to family and friends. With time being short we had at the pre-wedding shoot a week before. The weather on this day was perfect, and we just hoped for a repeat the wedding day… we were not disappointed, reaffirming winter weddings can be great too!

The sun was shining, I think this was due to Gemma and Jordan dragging it kicking and screaming from Australia. This set the precedent for this fantastic wedding which has also set 2015 off with an incredible start. I met Gemma first thing in the morning and her smile was brimming from ear to ear, and with the help of her sister, mum and make-up artist she looked incredible in no time, her dress was stunning and Jordan was going to be in for a nice surprise. The Rooms at Wyck Hill House are gorgeous and just flooded the place with gorgeous light, and this wasn’t even the bridal suite which had even more windows! As her proud dad entered the room, seeing Gemma for the first time in her dress, it was hard to find a dry eye in the room. Gemma was poised to head down the grand staircase and Jordan waited nervously in the ceremony room ready for more teary eyes.

With all weddings, and for obvious reasons the love of two people is very apparent, but I don’t think I have ever witnessed someone being or showing his love for his wife to be as much as Jordan did, and it was very endearing and you could feel this throughout the day. Normally the ceremony is sealed with the ‘I do” and the first kiss, but Jordan couldn’t stop wanting to kiss Gemma, so there were many kisses before the confetti barrage. So with the wedding certificate passed over and the sun shining down on the new Husband and Wife they took their stroll down the carpet.

After the hugs and congratulations it was time to round up the wedding guests and for me lean out of the bridal suite for a group photograph before getting the formal photographs underway making the most of the blue skies. With the family shots done myself, Gemma and Jordan took a stroll round the gorgeous grounds of Wyck Hill for their couple photographs.

The top table was calling, so we headed in for the warmth, and for the newly weds to take their place at the table. The wedding breakfast, speeches, cake cutting and of course the first dance were on the agenda, but with a sunset on the horizon we headed out for a few photographs before centre stage. The first dance as always has people shuffling ever closer to the dance floor and the murmurs and nudges of ‘When you doing your first dance?’ Well is was just after we had a little fun on the lawn with a few sparklers and a long exposure photograph or two.

This was a fantastic day, one that couldn’t of been any more perfect, two amazing people, a gorgeous venus, beautiful weather and such lovely family and friends, I am so pleased to part of this day, to meet them all and what a way to start the year! I wish Gemma and Jordan a massive congratulations and all the best for their future.
