Day 16 – Not everything in Poland is associated with doom and Gloom, we ventured of to Wieliczka Salt Mines, built in the 13 century and well worth a visit. It’s full of history, art, chapels and er, well salt, and yes the Nazi’s did get there hands on it for a short period of time as they wanted to try and build aircraft in there, so as you can imagine this place is huge! There are over 250 kilometres of tunnels in there and this little picture is the entrance down to the first level, 378 steps. Oh and when I said there is a lot of salt in there, well, there is also one hell of a lot of wood too, these steps and more, plus the internal supports!
